COVID-19: Ho Municipal Assembly temporarily bans 5 day market day cycle

The Ho Municipal Assembly has given a directive that, no market day will be observed in the Ho municipality henceforth until further notice in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak in the country.

This according to a release dated 27th March, 2020 by the MCE, Hon. Prosper Pi-Bansah after a consultation with all stakeholders is to minimize mass gathering.

The directive has put on hold a 5 day cycle of market day and now allows for market activities everyday.

Veronica buckets, liquid soaps and hand sanitizers will be provided for public use in adherence to the preventive measures put in place to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 disease.

According to the latest figures by the Ghana Health Service, the country has recorded 141 confirmed COVID-19 cases, 2 recoveries and 5 deaths. Globally, 665,985 cases have been recorded, with 30,935 deaths and 142,479 recovering. (as at Sunday, 29 March, 2020: 09:03 GMT)

Meanwhile, the President of the Republic of Ghana, His Excellency, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in an address to the nation on Friday 27th March, 2020, has imposed restrictions on movement of persons in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area (GAMA, which includes Awutu Senya East), and the Kumasi Metropolitan Area and contiguous districts, for a period of two (2) weeks effective 1:00am Monday 30th March, 2020.

The President said “this will give us the opportunity to try to halt the spread of the virus, and scale-up effectively contact tracing of persons who have come into contact with infected persons, test them for the virus, and, if necessary, quarantine and isolate them for treatment, should they prove to have the virus.”
