Statement by British High Commission, Accra, issued on 24 September, 2021, has announced they are in the process of recognising Covid-19 vaccine certificates from other countries, including Ghana, in order to allow those with the certificate to enter the UK without being subjected to self-isolation for 14 days.
The statement came at the back of an earlier announcement made by the UK government that, individuals from many countries across the world would have to self-isolate upon arrival in UK, despite having two doses of recognised Covid-19 vaccines starting from 4 October, 2021.
They however said “statements that Covid-19 vaccines administered in Ghana are not approved by the UK are untrue. The UK recognises the Oxford-Astraženeca, Moderna, Pfizer, and Johnson and Johnson COVID-19 vaccines in Ghana, irrespective of where they are manufactured, as being the same as those administered in the UK.”
The UK government’s statement further said: “Following a pilot with the United States of America and the European Union, the UK is working to recognise vaccine certificates from other countries as part of a phased review of the many Covid-19 vaccine certificates issued across the world. This includes recognising Ghana’s vaccine certificate, and in the spirit of our long term partnership, we are working with Ghana’s Ministry of Health to ensure that this happens as soon as possible.”
