Ghana started its campaign on Friday, November 17, 2023, with a home win against Madagascar, through a solitary goal by Inaki Williams at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

22 months ago, the Black Stars first suffered a 2-3 humiliating defeat in the hands of the Les Coelacantes(The Coelacanths) at the 2021 AFCON tournament hosted by Cameroon in January, 2022. A result that made sure the Stars exited the tournament at the group stages with just a single point.

Black Stars are seeking qualification to their fifth FIFA World Cup tournament to be played in 2026 and will be hosted by three nations namely, USA, Mexico and Canada.

Ghana’s next World Cup qualifier is at home to their fellow West African side, Mali, on June 5, 2024.

The Stars will now shift attention to preparations for next year’s 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
