Guinness World Record: Afua Owusu Asantewaa Aduonum awaits review by GWR

Former Miss Tourism Ghana, Afua Owusu Asantewaa Aduonum has concluded her attempt to break and set a new Guinness World Record of longest individual singing marathon (sing-a-thon).

The wife and mother of three started her attempt on the Midnight of 24th December, 2023 and has brought her singing to an end on Friday, 29th December, 2023 after successfully singing for 126 hours and 52 minutes.

Afua sang over 1200 Ghanaian songs and breaks for five minutes after every hour and twenty minutes break after four hours of continuous singing.

Ghanaians from all walks of life, including musicians, politicians, media practitioners, amongst many others have shown their support throughout the period, by cheering her up to a successful end.

Per Guinness World Record, the longest singing marathon by an individual lasted 105 hours and was attained by Indian by name Sunil Waghmare in Nagpur, India, from March 3 to March 7, 2012.

Afua and her team will now wait for Guinness World Record to review the entire work done by the Ghanaian to determine whether the record is broken and also announce whether a new record has been set.

Another Ghanaian, Faila Abdul-Razak, will also from 1st to 5th January, 2024, attempt 120 hours of cooking (Cook A-thon), to break the current longest cooking marathon record by Irish chef, Alan Fisher. He ousted the previous record holder Hilda Baci, by cooking for an impressive 119 hours and 57 minutes, the official Guinness World Records (GWR) said. Fisher’s record over Baci’s previous record is more than 24 hours.
