African Games 2023: Ghana’s women hockey team guaranteed at least Silver Medal

The hockey tournament kicked start on Sunday at Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium, Accra in the ongoing African games.

The Ghana’s women contingent have secured 2 wins out of 2 in the pool fixtures with match result of 4-1 against Kenya in the day 1 event and also secure a 1-0 victory against their West African rivals, Nigeria in the pool of three teams.

Ghana women top the pool with 6 points and 4 goals, Nigeria second with 0 point with -1 goal and Kenya seating bottom with 0 point with -3.

Ghana await the final pool fixture between Nigeria vrs Kenya to determine second place in the pool.

The first and second position will face off for gold and silver medals whiles the third in the pool will go home with bronze.

In the men’s category, the host handed Nigeria defeat with a late goal with 5 minutes for Nigeria to respond in the day one of the hockey tournament.

Day two saw Ghana score three goals in the third quarter of the second fixture against Kenya to secure 6 points in the pool of 4 participating teams.

Ghana hope to secure a win against Egypt in the final fixture to remain top of the pool as they only have difference of 2 goals advantage over Egypt.

Similar to the women’s play off, The first and second in the men pools will face off for Gold and Silver whiles third and fourth positions in the pool will face off for the bronze medal.
