SWAG Volta Marks 8th Anniversary with Kwabena Yeboah Public Lecture in Ho
The Volta Regional branch of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) has marked its 8th anniversary with a public lecture dubbed the Kwabena Yeboah Public Lecture, held on April 9, 2026, in Ho.
The lecture, themed “Eight Years of SWAG Volta: Impact and Development in Sports Journalism,” was delivered by the SWAG President, Kwabena Yeboah.
In the opening address, the Volta Regional Chairman of SWAG, Eric Eli Adzi, reaffirmed the Association’s commitment to promoting intellectual development in sports journalism to help shape the profession in Ghana and beyond. He urged journalists to continually equip themselves with the right tools and skills to tell compelling and accurate sports stories.
Delivering the keynote lecture, Mr. Yeboah challenged sports journalists—particularly members of SWAG Volta—to uphold high ethical standards in their work. He stressed the importance of accuracy over speed, urging practitioners to maintain credibility while holding duty bearers accountable through responsible criticism.
He further called on journalists in the region to deliberately tell the stories of athletes from the Volta Region, emphasizing the need to give greater visibility to local talent while maintaining professionalism.
A guest speaker, retired and former marathon champion, Godwin Adukpo, also challenged educational institutions to create an enabling environment for talent development, stressing the importance of structured support systems for young athletes.
Participants were drawn from various sporting associations and educational institutions, including Ho Technical University, Mawuli School, Mawuko Girls’ Senior High School, and OLA Senior High School.
In a closing remarks, the Chairman of the event, Dr. Harrison Kofi Belley, urged sports journalists to remain committed to professionalism and ethical conduct in their practice.
