Ghana has unveiled the logo, mascot, and website for 2023 African Games at an event in Accra, on Thursday, 16 December, 2021.
The three items which were dubbed ‘triplets’, was outdoored by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif, and the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), to signal the country’s willingness and preparedness let the rest of Africa know they are welcomed in 2023.
Speaking to the gathering, Hon. Mustapha Ussif said the games will be used to remind Africa and the world of Ghana’s rich sports history and culture.
“The ceremony taking place today is a clear message to the whole world that Ghana is ready, willing, and capable of hosting and organizing a benchmarking event which will leave a lasting legacy not only for Ghana but for the continent of Africa”.
The logo was named Akweley, the mascot, an eagle, also christined Akorkor, and the third one, the website, is called Tawiah, all in the Ga Language.
The Borteyman Sports Complex and the Legon Sports Stadium are the two venues that’ll host August 2023 event.
The 13th edition of the games, is less than two years to the start. Over seven thousand (7000) athletes and officials will represent fifty-four African countries, to compete for laurels.
