Ghana’s export and neutralization of football talents in other countries is not new, rather an honor, even though some may feel the pain of losing talents that are capped for other countries instead of their birth nation, Ghana.

It is a phenomenon that do not help our local league to be attractive yet much is not done to avert it from occurring. The individual talents on the other hands are willing to leave due to inadequate infrastructure for talent development in the country. As if that’s not enough, the few infrastructures in the country are not well maintained for it purpose.

Likewise, some of the talents opt to travel because of wealth as the local leagues are not that rewarding as compared to some of the leagues outside.

Muntari Mohammed – Qatar



Muntari Mohammed is one of such talents Ghana have lost to the host of 2022 FIFA World Cup, Qatar.

Muntari was born on 20th December, 1993 in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region of the Republic of Ghana to Ghanaian parents.

He moved from Ghana and his former academy, Golden Lions Soccer Academy which belongs to former Black Star player, Nii Odamptey Lamptey to join Al Jaish in Qatar in 2012, and since have neutralized for Qatar and capped four (4) times for Qatar U23 national team.

He played as a striker currently playing for Al-Duhail in Qatar scoring 16 goals in 52 matches.

The prolific striker was been capped 48 times for the gulf nation scoring 13 goals. Muntari is in the 26 man Qatar squad for the world showpiece.

In an exclusive interview with Juliet Bawuah of TV3, The striker disclosed that the decision to play for Qatar was not financially motivated.

The expectations of Qatar lifting the trophy largely rest on his shoulder as an experience striker that will be relied on to bang in the goals.

Qatar is expected to kick start the tournament with an opening match against Ecuador on Sunday, 20th November at 4:00pm (16:00 GMT).
The tournament is set to kick off from 20 November, 2022, and ends on 18 December, 2022.
