The race was initially held on Monday night, but a challenge with the starter meant it had to be redone on Tuesday, with two swimmers failing to hear the starting bell due to noise in the arena and the officials were unable to stop the race.

However, the athletes were presented with the options to re-swim or to keep their times the finish in the initial race which Abeku Jackson chose the later.

Despite winning the Re-swim in 53.80 seconds, he failed to beat the time record of Nassr Abdalla and Jarden Easton of Egypt and South Africa respectively who opted not to take part in the re-swim

Unfortunately for Jackson, despite winning the re-swim, his time was the third best hence winning bronze medal.

The 23-Year athlete won two medals so far in the ongoing African Games 2023 in Accra Ghana increasing Ghana’s medal haul to five.
