Over 100 Residents Benefit from Eye, Blood, and Wellness Checks at Sometutuza 2025

Somē, Volta Region – September 27, 2025 — More than 100 residents of the Somē Traditional Area received free medical attention during a health screening exercise organised as part of the 2025 Sometutuza celebrations.

The initiative, held on Friday, offered comprehensive checks for blood pressure, diabetes, malaria, and other common conditions. Eye examinations were also conducted, with beneficiaries receiving medications and corrective lenses. Some patients were referred to the Ketu South Municipal Hospital for further treatment.

The outreach was spearheaded by Dr. Christopher Amehoe, Registrar of Ho Technical University and a proud native of Somē. He mobilised support from Sitso Chemicals (Agbozume-Sukladzi), an off-the-counter medicine shop, Hope Dee Eye Centre (Ho), and the Ketu South Municipal Health Directorate to make the exercise possible.

In addition to the screenings, community members donated blood to the Ketu South Municipal Blood Bank, an act health officials described as both timely and impactful.

Beneficiaries, many of them elderly, expressed appreciation for the intervention. “This is more than just celebration; it is life-saving,” said one resident after completing her screening.

The 2025 Sometutuza concluded on Sunday, September 28, with a colourful durbar at the Somē National School Park, drawing chiefs, elders, and citizens from across the traditional area. The festival blended cultural displays with acts of social responsibility, reinforcing the bond between heritage and community well-being.
