Avatime traditional leaders demand justice for Col. Gameli

The Chiefs and people of Avatime Traditional Area in the Volta Region are appealing to the judiciary to temper justice with mercy to allow bail for Col. Samuel Kodzo Gameli, who was arrested on September 23rd, 2019 for allegedly plotting coup in Ghana.

At a press a briefing on Thursday, February 13, 2020, on behalf of all the seven towns namely, Vane, Amedzofe, Biakpa, Gbadzeme, Fume, and Dzokpe at Avatime-Vane, Antonio Asare who addressed the media has called on the State to grant Col. Gameli his constitutional right whiles the investigation continues.

Part of the statement read: “We wish to express our disgust at the manner in which he (Col Gameli) has been handled by the state since his arrest on September 23, 2019. Col Gameli was invited to his office on the morning of 23rd September, 2019 and as soon as he got there, he was arrested and sent to the offices of the Bureau of National Investigations(BNI). His whereabouts was known to his family after 5 days being in the BNI cells. This was after the media had reported that Col Gameli was taken to court and remanded into BNI custody”.

The people of Avatime believes their son is innocent about the allegations levelled against him, and have been quiet for close to 6 momths.

The Avatime traditional leaders after the press conference, performed traditional prayer in honor of Col. Gameli to be served justice.

Background:

Colonel Samuel Kodzo Gameli was arrested for allegedly assisting Dr Benjamin Agordzo and the leader of the alleged coup plotters, Dr Frederick Yao Mac-Palm, and some seven other suspects, including a retired Senior Police Officer, Supridentent Peter Lanchehene and some military officers, who had also been charged with treason.
