Government to absorb electricity bills for the Poor

Ghana President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, in his Update No.6 on measures taken against the spread of Coronavirus, on Thursday, April 9, 2020, announced that government will fully absorb electricity bills for the poorest in the country. These applies to persons who consume 0 to 50 kilowatts hours a month for the period of April to July.

In addition all other consumers; residential and commercial will also experience the absorption of 50% of their bills for the same period. March, 2020 bills will be used as the benchmark to determine the 50%.

“This is being done to support industry, enterprises and the service sector in these difficult times, and to provide some relief to households for the lost income. Nevertheless, I urge all Ghanaians to exercise discipline in their use of water and electricity.” Said the President.

Meanwhile, the restrictions of movement in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area and and Kasoa and Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area and its contiguous districts have been extended by one more week, beginning 1am (local time) on Monday, April 13, subject to review.

Ghana’s has recorded 378 cases as at Thursday, April 9, 2020, with 6 deaths and 33 recoveries.
