Rescue Kasu Kindergarten Classroom Block from its Deplorable State

Kasu is a small farming Community, five minutes drive from the Ketu North Municipal Capital, Dzodze.

Even though the community is small, it can boast of Basic Education with some educational infrastructure existing.

However, the Kindergarten classroom block is currently in a deplorable state.

The school building is not only old and needs a facelift but also not completed at the time it was built. The windows and doors are not fixed to keep furniture and other school items safe when school is not in session.

Due to its incomplete state, rain normally enters the classroom, thereby forcing the school to close anytime there is a downpour.

The headmaster of the school, Mr Raphael Okekale Salami bemoaned their challenges citing how the little ones carry their furniture to and fro across vehicular roads for safe keeping at home.

“Because the classroom is without doors and windows so we can not leave the furniture in classroom when school is over. These little ones will have to be carrying it across this road to keep it at nearby place and bring them back every morning.”

“Erosion leaves many sinkholes on the school compound, causing the pupils to slip and fall many times as some gets injured in the process when transporting their furniture from one end to another”. He added.

As if that is not enough, furniture for these pupils is woefully inadequate, as about seven pupils sit on one bench in class.

The headmaster, Mr Okekale appealed to benevolent individuals and groups to assist the school.

“I will appeal to individuals and benevolent groups in our society to come to the aid of the school fix the windows and doors to reduce the stress that the pupils go through carrying furniture up and down, also the furniture is not enough and I will be glad if we can get more”.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 4 is quality education and it’s target number one is “Achieving inclusive and quality education for all reaffirms the belief that education is one of the most powerful and proven vehicles for sustainable development.
