Division two league in the Volta and Oti Regions would resume this weekend at selected and approved match venues.
The league which has been suspended since June 2018 after the airing of an investigative piece by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and his Tiger Eye PI team and subsequent imposition of restrictions due to the outbreak of COVID-19 returns with high expectation from fans, players and the media.
Clubs in the region have been active on social media with information regarding training schedules, friendly matches, signing of players and coaches. Notably among them is Christian Chibueze, a CAF licence C holder and a respected sports presenter with Global FM/ V1TV who joined Ho based side, Home Stars FC with an ambition to qualify to Division One.
Unlike previous seasons where matches where honoured on home and away basis, the regional football association has approved centres to be used by clubs in each zone. And this is expected to have between three to four matches in a day.
As part of preparations, the FA has held several engagements with various stakeholders including club administrators, match officials and match commissioners.
According to Chairman of the Organising Committee, Hamza Muturla, the FA has applied to the regional police command for security and visited district commanders for deliberations and assurances.
On COVID-19, he said veronica buckets with water, soap and tissues and compulsory wearing of masks to match venues shall be strictly adhered to.
Forty nine clubs are participating in the league and are grouped in three zones of Northern, Central and Southern.
There would also be sub-middle league and middle league to declare the region’s sole representative to National Division One League by October 2021.
The region currently has Agbozume Weavers and Heart of Lions and West Africa Football Academy, (WAFA) playing in Division One and Premier League respectively.
