In a defining outcome from the inaugural CVF-V20 Board Meeting in Washington, D.C., Ghana’s Hon. Seidu Issifu has been appointed to the board, securing a strategic role in shaping the global climate agenda.
In October 2025, as climate leaders gathered in Washington, D.C., Ghana secured a strategic seat at the helm of the Climate Vulnerable Forum–V20 (CVF-V20). The appointment of Hon. Seidu Issifu, Ghana’s Minister of State for Climate Change and Sustainability, crowns years of focused policy set forth by President H.E. John Dramani Mahama. It signals clear global confidence in Ghana’s policy vision and its focus on delivery.
The CVF-V20 is a powerhouse platform for the 68 economies most threatened by climate change, driving a shared agenda for prosperity. It brings together leaders, finance ministers, parliamentarians, and central bank governors to translate climate ambition into tangible investment and policy.
Ghana’s elevation to the Board ensures that West Africa’s perspectives are now baked into critical decisions on loss and damage, disaster financing, water security, and energy sovereignty. It’s a powerful new platform to strengthen South-South coalitions, empower youth, and scale up local enterprise.
Ghana’s Vision on the World Stage
Representing President Mahama, Hon. Seidu Issifu used the platform to articulate Ghana’s clear priorities: scaling clean energy with a focus on 500 MW of new solar capacity, crowding in new investment for green projects, and updating Ghana’s Climate Prosperity Plan (CPP) to unlock resilient growth.
This is Ghana’s strategy in action: aligning domestic delivery with regional diplomacy, turning technical readiness into investable pipelines that benefit communities first.

A Principled Bid for Continuity
In a forward-looking move, Hon. Seidu Issifu also proposed that Ghana be accorded a permanent seat on the Board. As the host country of the CVF’s permanent global headquarters, Ghana is uniquely positioned to provide continuity and institutional memory. The Board agreed in principle, recommending the proposal be put before the broader membership for endorsement.
From Ambition to Results
With its seat secured, Ghana will co-pilot a results-oriented docket. The focus is laser-sharp:
Adaptation at Scale: Pushing for city-level resilience and early warning systems.
Loss & Damage: Moving beyond debate to fast-track practical access to funding.
Finance Reform: Championing innovative tools like debt-for-climate swaps and fairer access to funding.
High-Integrity Markets: Ensuring carbon finance benefits local communities.
A Mandate to Lead
Hon. Seidu Issifu’s appointment is not merely symbolic; it is a mandate to lead. Anchored by Ghana’s hosting of the CVF headquarters, this new role consolidates Accra’s standing as a continental hub for climate policy and finance. The appointment sends a clear message ahead of COP30: the climate-vulnerable nations will drive a prosperity agenda built on resilience, fairness, and results of.
